Catholic Church in Syria Stands in Solidarity with Suffering People of Palestine and Cancels Christmas Festivities Except for Prayer Services


The Apostolic Vicar of the Latins in Syria, Bishop Hanna Jallouf, called on the priests,
monks and nuns of the Latin Church in the country, to limit Christmas and New Year celebrations inside churches, parishes and monasteries, in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who are suffering, especially in the Gaza Strip.
His Excellency said in the letter signed on December 5th, which reached Abuna’s website: “In view of the current conditions that our country is going through in general, and in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who are suffering especially in Gaza, and who were the first to help us during the war and earthquake, I ask you to Christmas and New Year celebrations are limited to our churches, monasteries, and parishes.”
Bishop Hanna Jallof concluded his message to the local clergy by saying: “May the incarnate divine child fill your hearts and families with peace, harmony and reassurance, wishing you glorious holidays and a blessed year. Happy new year. O child of the cave, pray for us.”
