PATRONAL FEAST OF THE PARISH OF SAINT JOHN BOSCO
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the faithful of St. John Bosco Parish in Montreal and neighboring parishes, not only Italian-speaking but also communities of other languages, had the joy of celebrating the patronal feast of St. John Bosco Parish. In an electric atmosphere, we witnessed two great moments.
The first was the celebration of the bilingual Eucharist at 11:00 am.
In a church packed with the faithful, the Holy Mass was presided over by His Excellency Monsignor IVAN JURKOVIC, Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, and concelebrated by several other priests, including Father Yoland Ouellet [National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in French-speaking Canada]; Father Frank [Chaplain of various hospitals]; Father Dany Dubois [collaborator of the Pontifical Mission Societies in French-speaking Canada] and myself, Father Jean-Marie Bilwala. In his homily, speaking about our mission in this Jubilee Year 2025 to be “Pilgrims of Hope,” the Apostolic Nuncio invited us to be strong in our faith to overcome all the daily difficulties that can distance us from our Lord Jesus Christ.
Then it was the second moment after the Holy Mass. We all gathered in the parish hall. After the Apostolic Nuncio’s prayer of blessing, there was no time to waste. Our stomachs were calling and it was time to satisfy them. There was plenty to eat: appetizer, lasagna, salad, roast veal with sides and dessert. This second moment was enlivened by Salvatore Bruno, a great musician of Italian origin, who gave everyone a chance to try their dancing skills. You could see the faces of the participants. They were all so happy. It was really a testimony of the life of communion.
