Bishops of Peru invite Pope Leo XIV to make a pastoral visit to the country
After participating in the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, a delegation from the Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP), led by its president, Monsignor Carlos García Camader, Bishop of Lurín, met with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Monday, June 30. During this audience, the bishops extended an official invitation to him to make a pastoral visit to Peru.
Pope Leo XIV holds Peruvian citizenship as he spent nearly 20 years there as a missionary and then as archbishop. The pope's missionary activities in Peru were documented by the Vatican in a recently released VIDEO:
In the letter, Bishop García expressed, on behalf of all the bishops and the Peruvian people, his profound affection and closeness to the Holy Father, thanking him for holding a special place in his heart for Peru, a country he served pastorally for many years before being elected Successor of Peter.

"Your presence will renew the hope of our people, strengthen the faith of our communities, and be a beautiful sign of communion with the universal Church," the letter reads.
The meeting took place one day after the Pope presided over Mass in St. Peter's Basilica, on the feast of the holy apostles Peter and Paul.
Among the members of the delegation were also present Bishop Luis Alberto Barrera (Bishop of Callao and Second Vice President of the CEP), Bishop Antonio Santarsiero (Bishop of Huacho and Secretary General of the CEP), Cardinal Pedro Barreto (Archbishop Emeritus of Huancayo), Bishop Alfredo Vizcarra (Archbishop of Trujillo), Bishop Pedro Bustamante (Bishop of Huánuco), Bishop Marco Antonio Cortez (Bishop of Tacna and Moquegua), Bishop César Augusto Huerta (Sicuani), Bishop Ricardo García (Bishop Prelate of Yauyos), Bishop Lizardo Estrada (Auxiliary Bishop of Cusco and Secretary General of CELAM), Bishop Raúl Chau (Auxiliary Bishop of Arequipa), Bishop Juan Carlos Asqui (Auxiliary Bishop of Tacna and Moquegua) and Father Guillermo Inca, Deputy Secretary General of the CEP.
