BREAKING Update Catholic Nun Stabbed in Croatia Faces Charges in Twist after Police Investigation

Several Media outlets reported that a Catholic nun named Marija Tatjana Zrno, age 35, in Croatia, was allegedly stabbed by a migrant in Zagreb, Croatia on Friday, November 28, 2025. However, after a police investigation, it was found that she purchased the knife and made a false report; and now faces charges from the police. Previously, it was reported that she has been admitted to the Sestre Milosrdnice Hospital Center with minor injuries. Sr. Marija is a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, and lives in the convent in Frankopanska. Local media reported that she was stabbed outside her convent on Friday afternoon and was admitted in the hospital at around 3 pm with an injury in her abdomen inflicted by a sharp object. Unofficial sources claim that the migrant, who stabbed her, shouted religious slogans.
The Government of Croatia wrote on X:
Regarding the nun and teacher at a Zagreb elementary school who was injured yesterday, police officers and health workers have taken all urgent measures and actions. A criminal investigation is underway to clarify all the circumstances.
The Mayor of the Zagreb, Croatia commented:
Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević on Saturday strongly condemned the attack on the nun and wished her a speedy recovery "because that is the most important thing now", but he also stressed the need for a quick and thorough police investigation. "I expect the police to investigate all the circumstances as soon as possible, who injured the nun and how," said Tomašević. He stressed that it is crucial that the results of the investigation are published as soon as possible.
FULL POLICE REPORT FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION:
Circumstances of injury to woman in Zagreb on November 28th established
Police file criminal charges for falsely reporting a crime
Following the incident of injury to a woman, which we reported to the public on November 29, 2025, the Zagreb Police Department conducted an extensive criminal investigation to determine all the facts and circumstances of the incident.

Immediately upon learning of the injury, on November 28, 2025, police officers of the Zagreb Police Department interviewed several people and carried out a series of measures and actions within their jurisdiction with the aim of resolving the circumstances of the injury.

Yesterday, December 1, 2025, after being discharged from the hospital, the 35-year-old woman filed a criminal complaint against an unknown perpetrator at the official police premises for the criminal offense of attempted serious bodily harm. In the report, she stated to the police officers that an unknown perpetrator approached her and injured her with a knife, after which she sought medical attention at a hospital in the Zagreb area. After receiving medical attention, she was diagnosed with minor injuries.

During further criminal investigation, after collecting operational information indicating that the report was possibly false, police officers continued with intensive checks and determined that the woman had falsely reported a criminal offense with the aim of misleading the police, although she was aware that by making a false report she was committing a criminal offense. The investigation determined that she had injured herself with a knife that she had previously purchased in a store in the Zagreb area, which was confirmed during the proceedings.

Given what was determined, police officers will file a criminal report against the 35-year-old woman with the competent Municipal Criminal State Attorney's Office in the regular manner on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of falsely reporting a criminal offense under Article 304, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

After it was determined that it was self-harm, police officers called emergency medical assistance from the Zagreb Teaching Institute for Emergency Medicine. Based on the doctor's decision, the 35-year-old woman was transported to an appropriate health facility to provide the necessary medical care.

Note: Given the fact that unverified and inaccurate allegations about an attack by an unknown male person on a nun have been published in certain media outlets, we hereby emphasize that they have been proven to be incorrect by criminal investigation. Since in this specific case, the elements of a criminal offense committed against a 35-year-old woman were not met, we hereby completely deny such allegations by certain media outlets.
