BREAKING Russia Hits Historic 11th-century Cathedral at a Monastery in Ukraine during an Attack which Left 11 Dead



A historic 11th-century cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery complex in Kyiv was heavily damaged and set on fire. The roof of the Dormition Cathedral, a UNESCO World heritage site, suffered severe burns and structural damage following an overnight drone and missile barrage. Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, condemned the attack as a major war crime, while Russia's Defense Ministry denied targeting the site and blamed the damage on a malfunctioning U.S.-made Ukrainian Patriot missile.

President Zelensky wrote: First responders have put out the fires in Kyiv – at the Lavra and the Mystetskyi Arsenal. I am grateful to all the services working at the sites of the strikes, and to everyone who is helping. It has been confirmed that two Russian drones deliberately targeted the part of the city where the Lavra and the Mystetskyi Arsenal are located. As of now, 35 people are reported injured in Kyiv. Across the country, 53 people have been wounded, and 11 people are known to have been killed in this massive Russian attack. My condolences to all their families and loved ones.

Bishop Vitalii Kryvytskyi or Vitaliy Krivitskiy, S.D.B. the Ukrainian Roman Catholic diocesan bishop of Kyiv–Zhytomyr, wrote on FB (see link at bottom): I express my sincere condolences to the Orthodox brothers and sisters, the families of the dead and injured, all residents of the city, institutions and organizations who have been affected today. May God give us the strength to restore what has been destroyed in all the affected kingdoms of life and keep us sick with hatred, thirst for death and destruction - the terrible disease that has plagued our north-east neighbours.
The Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, Metropolitan Epiphanius (secular name Serhii Dumenko), Primate of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), wrote on X:

Due to the Russian shelling that is currently taking place, on the night of June 15, the roof of one of the holiest places in the Christian world—the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra—is burning. We ask for prayers for the salvation of the shrine from destruction. Another Russian crime against humanity, against history, against Christianity. What more must the Kremlin Antichrist do for the world to realize that decisive action must be taken so that the Russian terror against Ukraine and the very principles of peace comes to an end? Most Holy Theotokos, stop Herod!
