Companions of the Cross Elect New Leader from Canada - Fr. Simon Lobo, CC Elected General Superior

During their General Assembly, the Companions of the Cross elected Fr. Simon Lobo as General Superior to lead the Community for the next six years.

This appointment marks a new chapter for the Companions of the Cross as they continue their mission of evangelization and parish renewal championed by their late founder, Fr. Bob Bedard, CC.
Fr. Simon Lobo grew up in Ottawa in a devoted Catholic family. He was ordained a priest of the Companions of the Cross in 2009. Having served as a campus minister at Wayne State University and in parishes throughout Ottawa, he joined the pastoral team at Saint Benedict Parish in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2015. He became the pastor at Saint Benedict's where he has dedicated his efforts to parish renewal. He is the author of a book on parish renewal and co-authored a handbook on preaching within the framework of Divine Renovation. Fr. Simon has travelled extensively to deliver talks promoting disciple-making parishes.
Fr. Simon is taking over the position from Fr. Roger Vandenakker who has served since 2020. The Community acknowledges Fr. Roger's commitment to the Brotherhood and the fostering of leadership training, which aims to strengthen the priesthood.
The Companions of the Cross were founded in 1985 by Fr. Bob Bedard in Ottawa, Canada. It is a thriving community of Catholic priests serving as pastors, professors, university chaplains, itinerant missionaries and bishops. They minister in Canada (Ottawa, Toronto, Halifax, and Saint John) and in the United States (Detroit and Houston). The Community is currently comprised of 2 bishops, 46 priests, and 14 seminarians.
