March 10, 2026 - USCCB - WASHINGTON - Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Most Reverend Emanuel Hana Shaleta from the pastoral governance of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego.

The resignation was accepted in February and publicized in Washington, D.C., on March 10, 2026, by Cardinal Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States. At the same time the resignation was publicized, it was also announced that the Holy Father has appointed Most Reverend Saad Sirop Hanna, the titular bishop of Hirta, as the Apostolic Administrator sede vacante of the same eparchy.

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop Saad Sirop as its Apostolic Administrator.
The following is a brief overview of Bishop Saad Seroub.
Born in Baghdad on September 6, 1972
• Holds a Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Baghdad
• Holds a Bachelor's degree in Theology from the Urban University, 2001
He was ordained a priest in Rome by Patriarch Raphael Bidawid on October 13, 2001
• Holds a PhD in Philosophy from the Gregorian University in Rome, 2008
· The Chaldean Synod chose him as Auxiliary Bishop to Patriarch Louis Raphael Sako in 2014
· Appointed Dean of the Babylon College of Philosophy and Theology in Ankawa 2014-2015
Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Visitor to the Chaldeans in Europe in 2016
