The Holy See Press Office has announced that Pope Leo XIV will embark on an Apostolic Journey to South America from November 6 to 17, 2026. The 11-day trip will mark his sixth international voyage and cover ten cities across three nations.
The itinerary includes stops in Uruguay (Montevideo, Paysandú, Florida) from Nov 6–8; Argentina (Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Luján) from Nov 8–11; and Peru (Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, Pucallpa) from Nov 11–17.
The journey holds significant regional weight: Uruguay has Latin America’s lowest Catholic population at 36%; Argentina is the homeland of his predecessor, Pope Francis, who was unable to visit during his 12-year pontificate; and Peru is familiar ground for Pope Leo, who served there as a missionary and bishop, eventually gaining Peruvian citizenship.
