52nd Eucharistic Congress Begins with Beautiful Cultural Highlights and Mass - the Concluding Mass will be Celebrated by Pope Francis - VIDEO


 

The 2021 International Eucharistic Congress takes place in Budapest, Hungary from September 5-12. The one-week event held regularly since 1881 (every four years in recent times) celebrates the Real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

The 52nd International Eucharistic Congress has begun on Sunday, September 5th in Budapest, Hungary. The Mass closing the congress, will be celebrated by Pope Francis at Heroes’ Square on Sept. 12th. The congress, which had to be postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic, will be the second one hosted by Hungary after the 1938 event.  The theme of this year's congress is All my springs are in you. (Psalm 87:7)."The next Eucharistic Congress will be held in Ecuador in 2024. These large events which celebrate Jesus' real presence in the Eucharist are under the patronage of St. Pascal Baylon. The last congress was held in the Philippines with millions of people attending the open Masses. 

The a cultural show started the Congress followed by a holy mass celebrated by Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop Emeritus of Genoa. One of the event’s highlights will be a candlelight procession to Heroes’ Square. The Mass will be preceded by a speech by Constantinople Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.

In his welcome message in the official programme booklet for the congress, Cardinal Erdő called on believers to “see what is important” and to do their best to help others. “Let generations show more solidarity to each other! Let us all seek what is most important: an encounter with Christ!” Cardinal Erdő said. 

The President of Hungary, János Áder, gave a message to welcome the congress, he said the event would offer “a special opportunity to pray together, to seek together God’s saving will and to discover again and again His image in each other”. It will offer the opportunity “to raise together the shield of faith and to proclaim the commandment of love,” the president said.
