BREAKING New Vatican Statistics Reveal Over 33 Million Pilgrims from 185 Countries Visited for the Jubilee!

Statistics from Holy Year 2025: A Global Gathering of Hope
As Pope Leo XIV prepares to close the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, the final figures for the 2025 Jubilee of Hope have surpassed all expectations. A total of 33,475,369 pilgrims from 185 countries visited the Eternal City—exceeding the University of Roma Tre’s projection of 31 million. During a final press conference on January 5, Monsignor Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, reviewed the event alongside civil authorities who utilized the "Jubilee method" of inter-departmental cooperation.
Global Participation and Spiritual Impact
Attendance was heavily European, accounting for 62% of pilgrims, with Italy contributing the highest number of faithful. Beyond the 35 "major events" held, Fisichella emphasized the spiritual renewal found in Rome’s sanctuaries. Sites like the four Papal Basilicas and the Scala Santa saw unprecedented crowds seeking the Jubilee indulgence. "The Jubilee is coming to an end," Fisichella noted, "but the signs of hope remain... the horizon is broadening for a future filled with peace and serenity."
Volunteerism and Administration
The event's scale was supported by 7,000 volunteers: 5,000 active throughout the year and 2,000 from the Order of Malta providing first aid at the papal basilicas.
Alfredo Mantovano, Undersecretary of State, praised the "Jubilee method" for its administrative efficiency. He noted that this collaborative model will continue as Italy prepares for the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi later this year.
The City of Rome and Public Safety
Rome Mayor and Extraordinary Commissioner Roberto Gualtieri remarked that the Jubilee acted as a "driving force" for the city rather than a burden. He highlighted the million-strong Jubilee for Young People, stating, "The youth event at Tor Vergata will remain in the history of the city and the Church."
Public health and security statistics reflected the massive influx:
Emergency Services: 118 performed 580,000 interventions (40,000 more than the previous year).
Healthcare: Emergency room visits totaled 1,600,000 (an increase of 100,000 over 2024).
Security: Prefect Lamberto Giannini noted that safety was maintained through prevention rather than militarization, citing the unique sight of confessionals at the Circus Maximus as a lasting memory of the year.
The Holy Year concluded having met the goal of the Bull of Indiction, Spes non confundit: to successfully rekindle hope for a global audience.
