BREAKING Pope Leo XIV Appoints New Bishop of Chifeng, China, Under Holy See-China Agreement


On Wednesday, 22 July, Joseph Chang Yanfeng was ordained as the new Bishop of Chifeng in Inner Mongolia, China. His appointment by Pope Leo XIV on 15 June follows the guidelines set by the Provisional Agreement between the Holy See and the People’s Republic of China.

Born in Liaoning Province in 1984, Bishop Chang studied at Shenyang Major Seminary and South Korea's Catholic University of Daejeon, earning a degree in Biblical Theology. Ordained a priest in 2010, he has served the Diocese of Chifeng in various capacities—including curia administrator, parish priest at Chifeng Cathedral and Lindong, and most recently, Diocesan Administrator since October 2021.
