Pope Leo XIV Tells Youth "Jesus doesn't want them to be "armchair youth"... Feel the call to be missionaries"

In a video message addressed to participants in the second Diocesan Youth Day of Chota and Cutervo, held in the region of Cutervo,  Pope Leo XIV expressed his joy at seeing young people from the Prelature’s 18 parishes gathered to celebrate their faith in Jesus Christ. Pope Leo  encouraged young people in the Peruvian Prelature of Chota and Cutervo to place their energy and enthusiasm at the service of others, especially those who are most forgotten, urging them to become agents of hope in their communities.

Dear young people of the Prelature of Chota and Cutervo , it is with immense joy that I address you all, gathered in the beautiful land of Cutervo to celebrate this Second Diocesan Youth Day. How wonderful it is to know that you have come together from all 18 parishes of the Prelature to share your faith in Jesus Christ.


Dear young people, you are the youth of Christ and your motto this year says it with total clarity: “Called to love, sent to serve.”

Jesus doesn't want them to be "armchair youth ," complacent or settled in the comfort of "it's always been done this way." The Church in Chota and Cutervo needs their holy rebellion, their pure energy, their desire to transform painful realities into spaces of hope. Feel the call to be missionaries in your schools, your universities, your streets, and your fields. Serve with joy, especially the most forgotten, because that is where the suffering face of Jesus is found.

I entrust you to the Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Assumption, Patroness of Cutervo. May she always watch over you and guide you.
