Woman Injured in Suspected Stabbing During Church Service in Tramore

TRAMORE, CO. WATERFORD — A woman, named Mary McNamara, in her 50s has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a knife attack inside a church in Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland, on Tuesday, July 21, in the morning.

The incident occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church while she and other parishioners were gathered for morning prayers and Rosary recitation ahead of Mass.

Arrest Made Nearby

Armed unit officers and local Gardaí responded to the scene, where a suspect—a man in his 30s—was subsequently arrested at a nearby residence.

The victim was treated by emergency responders before being transferred to the hospital. Gardaí confirmed that while her injuries are serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Motive Under Investigation

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the assault and are working to determine the motive behind the attack. Authorities have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with relevant information or camera footage from the surrounding area around the time of the incident to contact local police.
