Pope Leo XIV Remembers September 11 and says "I invite everyone to pray that the Lord will bestow his gift of peace upon the world" at the Angelus

 After the Sunday Angelus prayer Pope Leo XIV said:

Dear brothers and sisters!

Two days ago marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks in the United States of America. I renew my prayers for those who lost their lives and for those who continue to bear the wounds of that tragic day. At a time when conflict and violence afflict so many of our brothers and sisters, I invite everyone to pray that the Lord will bestow his gift of peace upon the world.

The memory of the tragic event that took place twenty-five years ago prompts us to renew our commitment to peace, first and foremost through prayer, which we entrust to the intercession of the Virgin Mary.

Now I warmly greet all of you, Romans and pilgrims!

I welcome the groups from São Paulo, Brazil, and those from various other countries.

I greet the members of the Jesus Nazareno Cautivo Religious Association living in Rome, the group from the Salesian Oratory in Chieri, the faithful from Dolianova, Sardinia, and the pilgrims who have come from Assisi along the Way of Saint Francis.

I greet the “Bellunese Family” along with the Erechim School in Brazil, as well as the motorcyclists who have gathered to show their support for peace and life.
